CSAF, new Japan Air Self-Defense Force chief hold introductory call

Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David W. Allvin and new Japan Air Self-Defense Force Chief of Staff Gen. Morita Takehiro engaged in an introductory call at the Pentagon, Arlington, Va., Sept. 8, 2025, to reaffirm the strength of the U.S.-Japan Alliance, which is the cornerstone of peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region. 

During the meeting, Allvin congratulated Morita on his recent promotion, and the leaders discussed opportunities to deepen defense cooperation, strengthen Alliance force posture and presence, and bolster deterrence. The leaders further underscored their shared commitment to standing as partners in securing a free and open Indo-Pacific.
