Brig. Gen. Geoffrey F. Weiss is Deputy Director for Operations, Operations Directorate, the Joint Staff, in the National Military Command Center, Washington, D.C. Brig. Gen. Weiss is responsible to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for ensuring continuous 24/7 operations from the National Joint Operations and Intelligence Center including nuclear command and control and global operations monitoring, reporting and direction to combatant commands.
Brig. Gen. Weiss earned his commission as the top graduate from Officer Training School in March 1994. He has commanded at the wing, group, and squadron levels and commanded an expeditionary flying squadron during combat operations over Afghanistan. Prior to assuming his present duties, Brig. Gen. Weiss served as the Assistant Deputy Director for Current Operations on the Joint Staff and has additional experience as Deputy Director of the Joint Integrated Air and Missile Defense Organization and in the Office of the Assistant Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force as an executive assistant.
Brig. Gen. Weiss is a Master Air Battle Manager with more than 2,500 hours in the E-3 Sentry including 335 hours of combat and combat support. Brig. Gen. Weiss is also an award-winning author with articles appearing in the Joint Force Quarterly and Air and Space Power Journal; and his best-selling book, “The New Art of War: The Origins, Theory, and Future of Conflict,” was published by Cambridge University Press in 2021.
